Bell Repairs
The Rector referred to the notice dated 7th July 2010 convening the meeting and explained that it had been convened at short notice to consider proposals for repairing one of the bells which had collapsed during bell-ringing practice on 26th June. Fortunately, no-one had been injured.
The meeting considered in detail a paper dated 8th July which had been prepared by Mr Clarke and circulated to PCC members before the meeting. Following discussion, Mr Clarke proposed and Col Barrett seconded a resolution that the remedial work identified in the paper should be put in hand, preferably on the basis that the on-site work is carried out by volunteers, subject to adequate insurance being available. The resolution was passed nem con.
It was also resolved that a budget of £5,000 for the work should be approved although the meeting hoped that the overall cost would be substantially lower than this.
It was noted that a generous donation of £500 towards the cost of repairs had been received but that the donor wished to remain anonymous. Mr Clarke confirmed that he had expressed the PCC’s thanks to the donor. It was also agreed that further contributions to the repair costs should be invited from Holy Trinity’s congregation and the community at large.
Finally, it was agreed that the other bells should remain silent while the necessary repairs are carried out and that the Wonston team of bell-ringers should offer their services to Micheldever and Barton Stacey in the interim.
